The current EU-Regulation EU 2019/1781 establishing eco-design requirements for electric motors and frequency converters.
The old regulation "EC 640/2009" will keep its validity until June 30, 2021. In the following, the individual changes, which apply from 01.07.2021, are explained exactly.
What will change exactly from 2021?
The following changes are valid from 01.07.2021 for all induction motors on a sinusoidal voltage which are designed for continuous operation and have the number of poles 2, 4, 6 and 8.
- Rated voltage from 50V to 1,000V
- For power range from 0.12kW to 0.74kW IE2 is valid
- For power ranges from 0.75kW IE3 applies (IE2 + FU eliminated)
- Low voltage frequency converters from 0.12 kW to 1,000 kW
Important for the changes
- Still valid for frequencies 50 Hz and 60 Hz
- Extension of the scope to include Ex-, brake- and TEAO-motors
Does this EU-Regulation apply to all electric motors?
Please note that the changes regarding the regulation are not applicable to the following versions of electric motors:
- Which are completely integrated into one product
- With an integrated speed control (compact drives)
- For heights of more than 4,000 meters above the sea level
- For ambient temperatures above 60°C
- For ambient temperatures below -30°C or temperature of the cooling liquid below 0°C or above 32°C
- Underoil engines
- Non-ventilated motors
- Poleswitchable motors
- Which are placed on the market before July 01, 2019, which serve as replacements for identical motors integrated into products placed on the market before July 01, 2022
Will there be further changes with regard to the EU-Regulation?
Further changes will then be valid starting from 01.07.2023:
